Emergencies happen almost everyday, all around the country. Some emergencies are small, some emergencies equal to life and death situations. Whatever the case, there should always be a way to signal people about emergencies happening around them. This is why we have emergency pull stations.
Emergency pull stations are basically locations wherein an emergency pull is located. An emergency pull is a device that you can literally pull to trigger an alarm or a warning signal in order to notify whoever's concerned that an emergency situation is going on. The emergency pull is usually used in case of fire, earthquake, and other dangerous situations where huge amounts of people need to be warned. The emergency pull can be used for smaller emergencies, though. An example would be when the elevator you are riding on suddenly stops because of a blackout. An emergency pull would come in handy in order for you to let the guard of the building know that there are people stuck in the elevator. This works for some trains and certain doors that have automatic locks, as well. You really don't want to be stuck inside a train that has broken down, or stuck inside a room upon finding out that you've left your passcard. This makes emergency pulls important to have around. Some emergency pulls also have an “open door” function that opens the door upon pulling on the emergency pull.
Emergency pull stations are usually situated at key areas – by the door, by an emergency fire exit, at every corner of a building and other areas that are easily accessed. Emergency pull stations are also situated in areas wherein people passing by won't always accidentally trigger the emergency pull.
There are many kinds of emregency pulls that are being sold for almost every purpose. Some are built with lever. Some are built with cords. Most are made with a plastic or glass cover to encase the lever, so less chances of people passing by and pulling on them just for fun.
